The authors of this study investigated the potent cytotoxicity of geranyl 2,4-dihydroxy-6-phenethylbenzoate (GDP) against human pancreatic cancer cells (PANC-1) under poor nutrient supply conditions, a phenomenon for pancreatic tumors. The CytoSMART Lux2 was used to examine the effects of GDP on the morphology of PANC-1 cells for 24 h, showing cell shrinkage and ultimately cell death. It was also shown that GDP suppressed cancer cell migration and colony formation, suggesting that GDP is a promising compound for pancreatic cancer drug development.
